A Professional
Rewiring Service

Rewiring a house isn’t the simplest of jobs – unless you have the relevant skills and training, you should always leave it to a professional electrician.

M Wilcox provide a full rewiring service to homeowners, covering everything from the initial survey, to the safe installation of new wiring.

Whether you’re looking to extend your property or considering moving into a house that’s more than 25 years old, let us put your mind at ease.

If the wiring in your house is faulty or you have a dangerous appliance, it could lead to fires or electrocution, so it is always best to be safe and have it checked out by a professional.

Electrical
Safety Experts

Unless you are buying a newly built house, you are never going to be sure of the standard of the electrical systems working within the home that you are buying.

Like a car which requires an MOT, homes should also be checked regularly (at least every 10 years) for their electrical safety.

Cables are usually hidden inside our walls, and consumer units are often hidden in cupboards, so it is not surprising that we forget to check the condition of our electrical installation for damage or wear and tear. Faulty and old wiring is one of the main causes or electrical fires in the home. You can reduce the risk of a fire by checking the condition of your cables, switches, sockets and other accessories regularly.

Put your trust in M Wilcox to check the safety of your home electrical system by booking us in to perform an EICR check. Use the contact form to book in an Electrician at your convenience.

Domestic
Electrical Testing

The testing, inspection and writing of reports for Electrical Installation Certificates (EICR) for domestic properties are required for many different reasons.

The below list identifies various different reasons for your electrical report;

  • Selling property
  • Buying a new property
  • HMO property
  • Renting a Property
  • 10 Yearly fixed wire testing
  • Moving Home

M Wilcox offer all the Electrical installation certificates and electrical test certificate; we also offer a special service for landlords electrical certificates. In many cases landlords require several types or domestic electrical test certificate. See below for examples;

  • Fixed Wire Testing.
  • PAT Certificate.
  • Fire Alarm Inspection.
  • Emergency Light Reports.

All 4 types of certificates will be required in a House of multiple occupancy (HMO). Standard rented properties would only require PAT testing and fixed testing. Even though domestic electrical testing is not a legal requirement; it has become more common for them to be requested. Insurers, Local authorities and Councils generally request domestic electrical testing.

Consumer Unit
Replacement

Modern consumer units are made of a main switch, residual current devices (known as RCD’s) and circuit breakers. These consumer units control the supply of electricity around your home.

RCD switches constantly monitor the electrical currents in your home, and should any electricity flow through an unintended path (e.g. you!), the electric will be switched off within a fraction of a second, greatly reducing the risks of injury.

These modern units considerably reduce the risks of electric shock, or electrical fire in your home and should be considered essential if you still have an old style fuse box.

New consumer units are also far more convenient. With old style fuse boxes, should a circuit trip, you need to go in and replace a fuse (which are getting harder to get hold of)! With a modern unit, you can be up and running in the flick of a switch.
